Administration of Medicines

Pharmacists are medicines experts and have been safely administering vaccinations for many years. Now, in many Australian States and Territories, trained pharmacists are also able to administer prescribed medicines, other than vaccinations, by injection.

Many newer medications need to be injected at home

We understand that it can be daunting to inject yourself with medication! Our trained pharmacists can administer your medication for you during a private consultation at a time that is convenient for you.

Some prescription medicines require administration by a health care professional

Our pharmacists can help with that too!

What medicines can be administered?

Where permitted and authorised to administer medicines, pharmacists can administer any Prescription Only Medicine (S4) in accordance with the prescription. To allow pharmacist administration, you will require a valid prescription for your medicine. Some medications that require injection include:

    • B12 injections
    • Depo-Provera and Depo-Ralovera
    • Humira and Hyrimoz
    • Prolia
    • Ozempic
    • Mounjaro
    • Cosentyx
    • Xolair
