Ear infections can be painful and disruptive!
The two most common types of ear infection are middle ear infections, otitis media, and outer ear infections, otitis externa. Ear infections are common, especially in kids.
Symptoms depend on which part of your ear is infected and can include pain or itchiness inside or around the ear, fever, headache, discharge from the ear, difficulty hearing, dizziness, nausea and vomiting.
In Queensland, authorised prescribing pharmacists can undertake an assessment, in a private consultation, to determine whether a middle ear or outer ear infection is present for eligible patients over 2 years of age. They may make recommendations and prescribe, where safe and appropriate, medication to treat the infection. Consultation fees apply.
