When should I try to conceive?

The ideal time to conceive is as near as possible to the time of ovulation (when the egg is released from the ovary). Sperm can live inside the uterus for up to seven days, but the egg is only present for 12 to 24 hours. To increase the likelihood of conception, a woman should ideally have intercourse one or two days prior to ovulation. Timing is everything, so we've provided this calculator to help.

Does that mean I can’t get pregnant at other times?

Ovulation is the ideal time for conception, but doesn’t rule out the possibility of a woman becoming pregnant at other stages of their cycle. Appropriate contraceptive precautions should always be taken if you are not trying to conceive.
