Queensland Community Pharmacy Hormonal Contraception Pilot
In Queensland, authorised prescribing pharmacists can prescribe hormonal contraception, including for the first time, to eligible women aged 16 years and older. Following a private and confidential consultation. pharmacists can prescribe, where safe and appropriate, oral contraceptive pills, the combined hormonal contraceptive vaginal ring and injectable contraception. Oral Contraceptive Resupply Services in NSW, Vic, Tas, SA and WA
Trained pharmacists can now assess eligible women and offer resupply of approved oral contraceptive pills, without needing a new prescription from a doctor, in New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia. Specific eligibility criteria apply in each location.
NSW – Eligible patients are able to be resupplied with their existing hormonal contraception if they are a woman, aged between 18 and 49 years, taking a low-risk pill for contraception, which has been taken continuously for two years, as prescribed by a doctor or nurse practitioner. Consultation fees apply.
Vic – Eligible patients are able to be resupplied with their existing hormonal contraception if they are a woman, aged between 16 and 50 years, have taken an approved pill continuously for two years, as prescribed by a doctor or other authorised health practitioner and have had at least one review within the last two years. Consultation fees are currently funded by the Victorian Government.
Tas – Eligible patients are able to be resupplied with their existing hormonal contraception if they are a woman or gender diverse person with female biology, aged between 16 and 50 years, have taken the pill continuously for two years, as prescribed by a doctor or other prescriber and have had at least one review within the last two years. Please note, not all contraceptive pills are available under this service. Consultation fees apply.
SA – Eligible patients are able to be resupplied with their existing hormonal contraception if they are a woman, aged between 17 and 50 years, have taken an approved pill continuously for two years, as prescribed by a doctor or other authorised health practitioner and have had at least one review within the last two years. Consultation fees apply.
WA - Eligible patients are able to be resupplied with their existing hormonal contraception if they are a woman, aged between 16 and 39 years, have taken the pill continuously for two years, as prescribed by a doctor or nurse practitioner and have had at least one review within the last two years. Please note, not all oral contraceptive pills are available under the pilot. Consultation fees apply.

Emergency contraception
Emergency contraception is also known as the ‘morning after’ pill is available from pharmacists in all Good Price Pharmacy Warehouse pharmacies without a prescription. You can use this if you have unprotected sex, you forget to take the contraceptive pill, or if a condom breaks during sex.
